(Annapolis, MD)  The national Certified Professional Yacht Broker (CPYB) program, supported and sponsored by all seven broker associations in North America, recently welcomed John Adey, President of the American Boat and Yacht Council (ABYC) as a member of their Certification Advisory Council.

Certified Professional Yacht Brokers are recognized as having achieved the highest level of industry accreditation, available only to fully-qualified yacht sales professionals. Since 2000, the CPYB program has been administered by the Yacht Brokers Association of America (YBAA) in partnership with International Yacht Brokers Association (IYBA), Northwest Yacht Brokers Association (NYBA), California Yacht Brokers Association (CYBA), Boating Ontario Dealers, British Columbia Yacht Brokers Association (BCYBA) and Gulf Coast Yacht Brokers Association (GCYBA). CPYB brokers offer considerable value to buyers and sellers, as outlined in the CPYB Value Statement.

The program is guided by the Certification Advisory Council (CAC), represented by members of each of the seven sponsoring associations. Mr. Adey is the first non-broker to be invited to serve, bringing his expertise and industry insights to the CAC.

Colleen McDonough, CPYB Program Manager, commented on Mr. Adey’s appointment, stating, “We are very pleased to welcome John as a member of the CAC. The decision to invite him to join the group was made unanimously, following his recent participation in our annual strategic planning meeting in Annapolis, where we benefitted from his considerable industry expertise and knowledge. John’s proven business leadership with ABYC will definitely serve the CPYB program well.”

And, according to Vin Petrella, YBAA Executive Director, “Having an outside perspective from someone who is deeply involved in industry certification and education will provide valuable input and guidance to the CAC, which will help to further strengthen and grow the CPYB program.”

The CAC meets throughout the year via conference call, providing direction and insight to the CPYB efforts, as well as face-to-face each year to address strategic goals and objectives.
